Mohun Bagan Athletic Club is a football club based in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The club was established in 1889 by Bhupendra Nath Bose and is the oldest existing football club in India. The club plays in the I-League, the top-flight domestic league of Indian football. Mohun Bagan were given the title of the National Club of India in 1989, by then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, during the club's centenary celebration and in commemoration of the club's famous victory over East Yorkshire Regiment during the 1911 IFA Shield Final, which made them the first Indian club to defeat a British club to lift the prestigious title.
